Electric Heating Elements / Cartridge Heaters
Cartridge Heaters

NSI Cartridge Heaters are swaged through dies built to our specifications to ensure close compacting of all components and maintain tolerances subject to our critical quality control.

APPLICATION

Cartridge heaters heat metal parts
by conduction. They are installed
in reamed holes in the following
applications:

  • Molds
  • Platens
  • Hot stamping machines

Other applications include:

  • Packaging machines
  • Glue machines

High Density Swaged Construction And Features
  • Flex Leads are multistranded wire with nickel as the primary component. (Nickel is an excellent
conductor, even at elevated temperatures.) Leads are swaged-in and mechanically bonded o the resistance wire. Strands of wire are twistsleeving (double wall) that is impregnated with acrylic resin and an oleoresinous resin. Various metallic and non-metallic sleeves are available as stock modifications or for custom constructed heaters, and are reviewed in detail in this section.
  • Ceramic End Seal minimizes contamination, centers and protects leads.
  • 1/4" No Heat is standard construction minimum at the lead end as well as the end disk.
  • Ceramic Cores are manufactured to close
tolerance to assure a tight fir after winding and insertion into the tube.
  • Nickel-Chromium 80/20 Resistance Wire is wound on the ceramic cores with specially designed machines to ensure the maximum amount of wire possible in each heater. Precision winding results in lower-element temperature while providing wattage output required. 31 different sizes of resistance wire are stocked to assure proper watt density for any custom specification.
  • High Purity MgO (Magnesium Oxide) is used as an insulator between the resistance wire and the heater sheath to assure maximum heat transfer and maintain high dielectric characteristics.
  • The Welded End Disk seals against moisture and protects from contamination.

  Distributed Wattage
Because heaters tend to be 10% higher in
temperature in the center than at the ends, unequal wattage distributed over the length of the heater is sometimes specified (For example, if equal heat over the entire surface is critical, or if is essential to have higher heat at the end.)
